NaNoWriMo Post #20

On Crossing the “Finish Line”

I’m going to “finish” and validate my NaNoWriMo novel today, meaning that hopefully I will be at 50k by the end of the night.

But I won’t be “finished” in terms of plot. I’ll have four more chapters to go and I’m going to finish those in a mad rush on the weekend.

Even then, I won’t be finished because I plan to revise and rewrite this novel. Although I think it’s one of the worst first drafts I’ve ever written, I still plan to try and make something good out of it.

It will be May 2011 before I plan on even looking at this novel again. Hopefully waiting that long will give me objectivity. And after I give it an initial revision, I still won’t be finished.

It’s going to require a rewrite. And probably another rewrite. That’s fine with me. I’ll do whatever it takes to get this novel exactly the way I want it. It’s all part of the journey and I am prepared. 🙂
