Poetry Goals and Experimenting

At the beginning of the year, I made the resolution that I would write one poem a day for the whole year. So far, I’ve been faithful to my goal. As with all writing, some days it’s difficult to get ideas for poems. Some days, I get multiple ideas. Some days, I have to read a few poems by renowned authors before I’m inspired…

But I wanted to try an experiment. In the moments before I fell asleep one night, the last coherent thought I had was: “What about writing poetry on a different theme for every month?” Surprisingly, I remembered the idea when I woke up the next day.

I thought, That might be a decent idea for the rest of the year. It would be neat to have a common thread connecting all the poems from March, all the poems from April, etc. It’ll also be interesting to see how long I can run with a particular theme before I get bored or feel the urge to start branching off into something else.

Why not? I’ll give it a try.
