From Wal-Mart to Library

The library is one of my favorite places of all time, and Wal-Mart is probably one of my least favorites. When I go to the library, I go without a list (most of the time), so I can spend as much time as possible wandering the stacks and flipping through any book that catches my eye. When I go to Wal-Mart, I always go with a list, so I can get exactly what I need, no more and no less, and get the heck out of there as fast as humanly possible.

When I read this GalleyCat article about a Wal-Mart that was converted into a library, I squealed with delight. If only this new library was closer to where I live! (Now I want to visit McAllen, Texas!) It’s the largest single-story library in the United States (the size of two football fields), and it looks beautiful, with plenty of open space and color. I’d get lost in there and never want to come out. One of the best things about this library is that it was a good example of recycling: an old building transformed into a new one, with a new purpose. A happy thought for book lovers on Friday. 🙂
