Crying and Music

Everyone has a song (or more than one song) that makes them cry. I would imagine that most of the time, people wouldn’t listen to those sad songs again after the first crying spell. But then again, there are those times when you need to have a good cry (or maybe that’s a “girl thing”), or perhaps you’re going through a bad time and you need the imagined sympathy of a singer who must have felt the same way as you at some point. Elton John knows what I’m talking about.

Songs that will make me cry, without fail:

  • Kelly Clarkson – “Because of You”
  • Flyleaf – “Set Apart This Dream”
  • Lady Gaga – “Dance in the Dark”
  • Pearl Jam – “Immortality”
  • Johnny Cash – “Hurt”

There are a lot more, but these are the first few that came to mind.

So what songs make you cry?

  1. “My Heart Will Go On,” or “Pie Jesu,” both Jackie Evancho’s version—that’s pure power. “Hurt” is another great one and a total cryer. I really like the original Nine Inch Nails version, even though I’m not a NIN fan. After Johnny Cash did the cover they never performed it live again out of respect to him. …the more you know.
