The Thursday Three #24

  1. Writing update: I am on scene 54 out of 60, so nearly done! I have 88,443 words so far… will most likely get to 100,000 before all is said and done. (But I promise you that a high word count is not my goal.) I’m moving the characters forward, and if it takes a million words to get them there, then that’s OK with me.
  2. If you want to read an entertaining memoir, I recommend The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Although the book discusses subjects like child abuse and alcoholism, the author writes in a way that is miraculously not bitter or antagonistic toward her parents.
  3. This is kind of random, but my mother and I were going through some of my grandma’s old costume jewelry that she didn’t want anymore. Some of it was stored in an innocent-looking plastic sandwich box that, judging from the blue paper inside it, was apparently made by the Monsanto Chemical Company (AKA a Big Evil Corporation That Is Poisoning All of Humanity and Contributing to Global Warming). The box probably isn’t worth anything, but I found it interesting. Wonder what year it’s from…box

  1. It’s great that you’ve gotten so much writing done! Given that you’ve got a specific number of scenes, I’m guessing that you did an outline beforehand? I’ve never been able to do outlines — I think my writing is just too scattered for sensible outlines.

    • Yes, but it was a very basic outline. Just a couple of sentences describing each scene. It’s helped a lot, though, even though I’ve been deviating from it!
